How to Make AI Writing Sound Human: 9 Practical Tips

AI gives you a fast draft. These nine edits turn it into writing that sounds like a person — and reads better for it.

1. Vary sentence length

AI writes in even beats. Break some sentences up and merge others. A short line after two long ones feels instantly human.

2. Cut the stock connectors

Delete "Moreover", "Furthermore", "In conclusion", "It is important to note". They add nothing and scream AI.

3. Prefer concrete verbs

"Utilize" becomes "use". "Facilitate" becomes "help". Plain verbs read as human and are clearer.

4. Add specifics

Swap "many people" for "three of the five people I asked". Real detail is what AI avoids and readers trust.

5. Use contractions

"Do not" and "it is" feel formal and robotic. "Don't" and "it's" sound like speech.

6. Add a point of view

AI stays neutral. You don't have to. A clear opinion separates your writing from generated prose.

7. Kill the triplets

AI loves "clear, concise and compelling". Rewrite relentless three-part lists into something less tidy.

8. Read it aloud

If you stumble, rewrite. Your ear catches what your eye misses.
